How to spend summer in Warsaw - Part 3

Hello again.
I already told you about spending time outdoors, today I would like to concentrate on spending time indoor. I would like to tell you about few museums which I enjoy most.

1. Muzeum Kolejnictwa

Since I remember, I was visiting "Muzeum Kolejnictwa" every year. I always like watching old trains.
What you can find there: Firstly you will enter indoor part of museum. There are many photos, items related to railways and of course little train models. When you will finish inside tour you will go outside, for the greatest part of museum. Outside you can find many old locomotives. They are so amazing. And despite of the sign at the start of outside tour, you can get inside almost everyone of them. If you are interested you can find more info here: http://www.muzeumkolejnictwa.waw.pl
O this site you can also find info about trip in retro train. I was few times on it. Also great time to spend a whole day.

2. Muzeum techniki
The next one I would like to tell you is "Muzeum Techniki". I also always enjoy visiting it. First of all you need to know that they don't have any new inventions. All exhibits are old, but you can see what technology was in past. You can remember yours childhood when you will see washing machine "frania". You can also see many old computers. A calculater with size of a room.
There are many great exhibits there. All of you will find somethink interesting there.
If you like to visit it, here you have more info: http://www.muzeum-techniki.waw.pl

3. Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego
Another worth visiting museum is "Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego".
It is a pretty new museum. It is very modern. When I visited it, it make a very good impression on me. It wasn't anythink I was expecting. This is number one museum to visit. Not only becouse of being so modern but also it saying many about very important historical event. I recommend for anyone to visit it. More info here: http://www.1944.pl/

4. Centrum nauki Kopernik
Last place I would like to talk about is "Centrum nauki Kopernik". I never been there so I cannot tell you much about it, but probably anyone have heard of it. From what I heard it is very modern, with many interactive exhibitions. The only problem is to get inside. I was trying 3 times to visit it, but the queues was so long that I give up. If you are not sure about it, just go on this website and see what they have in offer. http://www.kopernik.org.pl/

Few questions for you:
Have you ever been in museums metioned before? What was yours opinion?
Could you recommend any other museum in Warsaw?
If you have ever been in "Centrum Kopernika", can you share your thoughts with us?

  1. I was in these museum despite Copernicus, because it's so hard to get there. It's very popular so buying the ticket without waiting in enermous queue is impossible, and I'm not a patient person.
I really love Warsaw Uprising Museumm it's done very well and in creative way, what is more - they are still developing attractions.
As for first two described museums I was once, and I don't feel any need to go back therem I just wasn't amazed.
Warsaw has a lot of muzeums, you can search something you like here: http://miasteria.pl/Miejsca/Mazowieckie/Warszawa/Muzea-i-skanseny.html

  2. I'm not the best person to discuss any museums and share the thoughts about them. Every time I make any trip abroad or even a trip to some place in Poland - going to see an exhibition in a museum always end up in the same way. I get bored and tred. So I always try to skip this plan of the excursion :)

However, the Museum of Warsaw Uprising and the Copernicus Museum somehow attract me:) It might be way more interesting than a reconstruction of an ancient village:)

  3. I was in all mentioned muzeums. Two at the end of the the presentation, Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego and the Copernicus Science Centre is the best museums I have been. I think that this is a nice way to spend time. At the same time there is much interesting to know. Although the "Copernicus" must have a lot of free time because a lot of interactivity. It seems to me that maybe 3 / 4 exhibits require attention. Otherwise you can not understand what is meant by the exhibits. However, I think that a lot of them are intended for younger. They represent things that should be obvious to students. For science I can recommend these Museum of Technology. I remember being in elementary school I've been there many times and always made an impression on me. Another museum that I can recommend is the Polish Army Museum. There are many well-preserved exhibits. Shows what was the progress of the army through the years. Railway Museum for me it was not interesting and I can not recommend it. Of course, this is a personal opinion, and others might like it:)

  4. I have been to Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego couple of times. It is really great - different than all other museums I have been so far. Really nice presented history - I saw there also some movie from that time. I also liked this underground tunnel through which everyone can walk. It was nice experience to see how did they manage that times - visiting this museum you can realize much more about that times than from the history lessons or book so I recommend it.
I have been also at Centrum Nauki Kopernika - I had to wait about 3 hours in the queue for the tickets. And I got a bit disappointed - quite a lot (as it was quite new, newly open) exhibits were damaged and didn't work. What I liked there was the machine which requires 2 people - both of them wear something on their head and there is a ball in front of them. What you have to do is to relax and the ball will move your direction. Unfortunalety I lost two times, I could not relax ;)

  5. On the interesting places in Warsaw, you can take a boat trip on the Vistula River ... If the weather is not conducive, it is worth visiting the National Museum in Warsaw, or artistic central like "Fabryka Trzciny"(st. Otwocka 14).

  6. Muzeum Kolejnictwa is the closest to PJWSTK but I've never been there. I visited the Warsaw Uprising museum during the Long Night of Museums event last year. I liked it but the queue was very long (nothing suprising). I'm yet to visit the Copernic Center, just have to figure out when queues to enter are the shortest :)

It's not really a museum but a place I always wanted to visit - Filtry Lindleya just across the street from our university. I wanted to see it during both Long Night of Museums even, unsuccessfully :( there were just too many people waiting and only a limited amount with a guide can enter.

  7. I was in two of those museums. I didn't go to Centrum Nauki Kopernik yet.

As a boy I really enjoyed Muzeum Kolejnictwa. I was there during the exhibition of model trains. I liked to watch how the trains going around the modeled world were controlled so they stopped at the stations and pass each other without colliding. What was specific is that most worlds for model trains were made with a great attention to detail -- they looked just like the world seen from bird's eye, with one difference -- there were a lot more trains.

I also enjoyed the Warsaw Uprising Museum. Before my first visit there, I imagined (basing on books) that times a lot different. The realism of all the features in addition to a great educational value makes that place great to see for everyone.

  8. I like museums, they have unique atmosphere and teach us about many subjects.
I have been in 'Muzeum techniki', and I think this is very interesting place. As you mentioned in your post, there are not any new inventions, but we can learn about the history of technique and industry. Old computers are amazing, big and looks weird ;)

I also can recommend 'Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego'. I agree it is modern and a little bit surprising.

I haven't even try to get to 'Centrum Kopernika' because of these big queues, but I am planning to visit it :)

  11. I was in Museum of Powstania Warszawskiego! Really interesting place. I learned many facts which I have never heard before. This place can make you cry. You can see there the pain and suffer poeple fighting in Powstanie Warszawskie. I recommend you to see this place. It is very good lesson of Polish history. I don't know other place which you describe in your presentation so it is difficult for me to write anything wise.

  12. Umm.. I really dislike to walk around museums, because I'm very active and slowly walking from piece to piece.. it's not for me and if the museum has an interesting exhibition for me (secession, comiscs, movies or something else), then I can endure. From this list I wasn't in Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego. I haven't any free time to go there. I never have time and always have something to do, but when I get freetime then I'll go there :)

I really enjoyed Centrum Nauki Kopernik, it was very fun and I tried everything that was there ;) I was with a group of youngs hard hearing friends and they very liked CNK.

  13. I love Muzeum Powstani Warszawskiego! I've been theremany times. I've been in every of those museums, and I was a little bit disapointe with Centrum Nauki Kopernik. Mayby it's because I saw museums in U.K with are very impressing. On the other side mayby my feelings was negaive because of enormous numbers of chlidren and fact that many of exibitions was broken. I think that Muzeum Geologi i Historii naturalnej and Muzeum Wojska Polskiego are very interesting too. And of course Muzeum Narodowe!

  14. I was in two of these museums. The "Muzeum Powstania warszawskiego" and the railway museum. Both made me a very good impression.

"Muzeum Powstania warszawskiego", as you wrote is very interesting place and you can see there amazing exhibits presented in a modern way, but in a cool climate. The only problem was a crowd of people:)

At The Railway Museum I was a long time ago, but it made me feeling very cool and if anyone is interested in history, could see it. A lot of interesting locomotives, which are connected with many interesting facts from polish facts from the past.

In terms of the Copernicus Science Centre, it's probably like most of us have heard a whole lot of very positive feedback on it. Apparently a lot of exhibitions leaves incredible experience and feelings after the visit. If only there were fewer people, I would go there for sure. But unfortunately it isn't announced for that, because of the number of guests and a lack of time on my part. The only one downside, of that museum, I have heard, is that many peoples use the interactive exibitions irresponsible and didnt use their brain to use it. And in that case they are often break down.

As for the Museum Techniki, I also have never been there. Unfortunately :( , but I really want to go there and I hope that someday I can. I really like knowing history like these, like, How it began, and how it evolved ...

  15. Unfortunately I haven't gather my self to go to any of the museums mentioned, for some time now I'm planning to go to Muzeum Powstania Warszawskiego, but didn't manage to do it jet. In Warsaw there are many interesting museums like the Chopin Museum opened last year.
As for the Centrum nauki Kopernik I went there once with my girlfriend, as we went during the day it wasn't so crowded. We really enjoyed it, but decided we need to buy a year pass, because few hours to see it all is just not enough and it's certainly worth visiting.
