Does money give happiness?

In my presentation I would discuss one of the fundamental questions of human life, namely: "Does money give happiness?".

We know the world without money only from the early chapters of historical books.

Money was created just to facilitate the exchange of goods for goods. Since the money was created, human life changed. Over the years, it’s role grew, and now we can’t live without it.

When I was little I wanted to be a king. It seemed to me that the king is someone who does nothing, who is very rich and does not worry about anything. Now I know that it isn’t true.

It is clear that I am not against money, because without it, now I can’t imagine life.
After all, I can’t just ‘drink knowledge’, I can’t ‘warm with a hot feeling’ and I can’thave a good sleep at soft trust’. The ideas are beautiful, but the daily maintenance costs.

Money paves our ways in life that we can’t keep with knowledge or group of friends. It is widely known that rich people usually have an easier life.

Today people are often evaluated not by their words and deeds but the thickness of their wallet. Wealth allows you to get a better job, learn in a better school, even get better friends. Among older people the most important is to have a house, a car and holidays. Among young ones you must have brand clothes, the newest mobile phone and one of the best computers.

The poor are often rejected by their environment, they just can’t keep "living. " It is more difficult for the poor to learn and they have to work harder even if they are talented. In our times money is crucial, it is time now to decide whether money gives happiness.

It is clear that you can’t buy sincere love, faithful friendship and good health. Easy to give examples here. We read and hear about the beautiful and rich, I mean mostly actresses and musicians who shun from friends and fans. They are objects of jealousy and admiration. However, rarelydo we hear that someone from the "aristocracy" celebrates the twentieth anniversary of a happy marriage. When their popularity fades away and fortune disappears they die in obscurity.

I think friendships are more durable and relationships are more accurate among poor people.

I think I proved that money really doesn’t give happiness. Therefore, let us go the other way Can money cause unhappiness? I would like to quote literary examples. We all know such works as “ The Miser” Moliere and “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. The second example shows a profound experience and the transformation of the miser -Ebenezer Scrooge to take place during the night of Christmas Eve. He is a loner who is not fond of people and cares only about multiplying his wealth. We talked about it the previous term.

Of course money is needed . Some people will be utilizing it in a wonderful way. This reflects the movie that you know for sure. It shows the story of a man of extreme poverty who is successful only because of stubbornness, dedication, ambition and love ... to his son. I am talking about "The Pursuit of Happiness. " It is a story based on facts.

And the last issue. Think… the most common cause of arguments is money. Money is a reason for marriage and family break up. Criminals are willing to hurt and kill to get it. Money gives only momentary pleasure, for example, from buying something they have dreamed of.

The worst part is that I've posted photos of the comic though, it contains in itself the truth, unless I’m wrong?

Money is like a drug - addictive and leads to the bottom. Don’t you think so?

  4. Regarding to above article it`s unbelievable how piece of paper can change the world and community. That piece of paper caused many crimes so can we say it leads to the bottom but I`m not sure I agree at all. Money divided for sophisticated and low class. More money we have the more we can have in life. Money appeases elementary needs as well. We can shinny up to high level of life. Investing to education, to clothes, how image we have. Money built our self esteem and if we can wisely use them, brings us happiness.

  5. Some can say that money doesn't give happiness, but imagine yours life without money. You will be homeless, don't have cellphone or computer, it will be hard to get any food.
Imagine that you like to travel and see many wonderful places, without money it is impossible.

In our world, without money, living is impossible.

  7. If you ever had anything in common with economics you probably heared about Adam Smith, who can be somehow referred as the father of the modern economy... without getting much in to details :)

He wrote once that there is no such thing as a free lunch. What means that when you want to get one thing you need to give/sacrifice another. s5683 wrote at the very begining that using money as such is just an alternative to the 'ye olde' barter. If we didn't use money, this presentation would probably raise a question, whether the gold, hide or amber give hapiness ;) Because we need to exchange our knowledge and goods, this is how the society have always worked!

s5683 also wrote somewhere in the post that 'Wealth allows you to get a better job, learn in a better school, even get better friends'. What you've most probably meant is that money is a mean to get a higher life standard... But how do we know what are those better standards? How do we know who would be a better friend? How?

Simple - from the media. I think it is not the money that is addictive. It is not the money that makes us unhappy, but the television!

Just watch this short video of Charlie Brooker from BBC four. It's just a pure condensed common sense:

    You will not be disappointed:)

  8. In my opinion money can give you happiness but it will vanish without a steady cash flow. Therefore I agree with s5683 - money is a drug and very addictive.

  9. Piotr said that without money you can't get several things, probably meaning those as basic necessities. I disagree with one of them: not having a cellphone could make me a happier person. Maybe spending a few days away from home and work would certainly mean away from work? I really hate my habit of checking email during free time. I made a mistake not to use separate addresses for private and work issues.

I was happy when I was far from home (even though it was in business) and didn't have free data roaming. Checking my email on the go actually cost me money then.

Going back to the question, I think that being rich is not about having a lot of money or goods, but about having the cash flow, that is constantly earning and spending. And better ways of earning and spending make people richer. One of the biggest mistakes of the people regarding themselves as rich or wanting to be such is constantly being in a rush to earn more, not giving themselves a break and stress-free time to spend.

  10. Michael, of course, that if we didn't use the money, we would replace them to something else, such as gold, but it still would be en a subject of controversy, hostility, often misery, but also happiness. I have written just about the fact that what leads to this kind of thing. And of course, that society didn't work without money... at least we think so, because we have never had such an example, since the beginning of human existence always the best of all was the one who had the most.
And if the point is that money allows us to more, it's probably logical, people with money have more rights. As for friends, that I meant that with the money we get to know people who usually have them too, who have the knowledge and systems, and such people is easier. We live in such times that for money we can have almost anything, even in short time, health. So it is, that the money have an impact on how people join.

  11. Marilyn Monroe said that "Money doesn't give happines. Shopping does."

Of course you can't buy true love; you can't buy talent or friendship or warm memories, but there are plenty important things you can buy and your life depends on them. Simply. Because money are not a source of happiness, it only makes ways to this source easier.

We can also help a lot of people and animals with money, be honest - money makes world - and without money we barely can help. But helping can make us happy. There are a lot of ways we can find happines using money if only you have them.

Piotr, you said that living without cellphones would be happier, I completely do not agree with you. It's not the thing about to not exist cellphones but how you use them! I find my cellphone super useful, and not because I'm checking mails (I cannot, I have old type :D) but I'M IN CONTACT with everyone dear to me. We can check if everything is ok, if we can help each other ot other stuff. If you can turn off you cellphone it's good, but don't say not having it would make you happier. It's not a things fault you can addict to them, but your own problem of using them.

I agree with s5683 that money can be easly converted in something else. How do you thing, what is more important for poor African? Piece of green paper or water?

  12. Life is easier when we have enough money. We don't need to worry about our basic needs as food, having an apartment or house. Money also help to give us pleasure as holiday trips, gadgets, partying ;)
It is good to have money, but not too much ;) People with a lot of money are often unhappy (we can observe this when we read about famous people). They have unhappy marriages, problems with drugs or alcohol. And what about their dreams? What can you dream about when you can buy almost everything?

  13. Money are necessary to life. Without them your life is poor and boring. You don't have any perspective for better life. If you have money your life is colorfull, interesting. Of course money are also the reason of many problems if you can't think responsibly. If you are wise and can divide money in good way it give you happiness and everything you want.

  14. In my opinion it is good to have money but not too much. When you have too much money you will also have problems connected with them. The simplest one may be what to do just not to lose them? But there might be some more serious one like kidnapping family fember for ransom etc. So I would like to have enoigh money to have a decent life. I don't need to have a house with 50 bedrooms, 5 cars etc. Like us cellebrities

  15. Money can be addictive but only for those who think it's a necessity for happiness. People who live to become rich who only thrive for the luxuries become addicts.
If your main desire is career & money making, than the emotional part of your life may suffer a lot.

On the other hand, allow me to quote one of my favourite film characters, Gordon Gekko:
"Greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures, the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the U.S.A.".

I'm pretty sure that not all people who are rich are doomed to hit the rock bottom.
