X-treme sports Part 2/3

Welcome back!
Previously we've learned some basics about extreme sports, what they are and why people decide to practice them.
This time you are going to find out about the icons of Xtreme sports! The most popular and well known people who practice it will be introduced to you. Beware of them, because their skills are beyond human abilities!

I'll start with Travis Pastrana, a motorsports competitor and a stunt performer, winner of championships in motocross, freestyle motocros, rally racing and supercross.

He was born on the 8th October 1983 in Annapolis, USA. At the age of four(!) he was driving a
motorcycle first time. At the age of 12 he met contemporary legend of motocross - Mike Metzger
(he made first back to back flip jump) and then Travis chose to be a professional racing driver. Only two years later (aged 14) he became a World Freestyle champion.

In 2006 he won the X-games championship receiving almost full notes (98,3/100) for performing for the first time in history a double back flip. He won Red bull X-fighters twice, one in Warsaw a few years ago. Pastrana participates Subaru rallys as well too. For those who still don't see anything special about Pastrana I have something more! You will be shocked by the fact that he is one of three man in the world who could live after separating his spine from his pelvis!

“I don’t remember most of the injuries, there have been too many.” - Travis Pastrana

For those who want's to know some more about Travis, please visit this sites.
Meanwhile have some rest and watch these films with him.
I assure you, no man can do things that he does so easily.

My favourite movie is the one with a grand canyon ;D

I think everyone know this tall fella. :D
Yep, this is Anthony Frank Hawk, commonly known as Tony Hawk. I think he’s the most known skater in the whole world. Born on the 12th May 1968 in Carlsbad he was the first man who did 900 degree rotation jump with correct landing. As a child, Tony was described as hyperactive, so his parents supported his skateboarding so he can have a positive way to unleash his enormous energy. Thanks to that he became professional skateboarder at age of 14(!). Since 2004 Tony won more than 80 competitions and invented many tricks like 360 Varial McTwist .

For anyone who doesn't have a talent for skateboarding but likes this sport and wants to feel like a professional skater, I would commend Tony Hawks Pro Skater video games series made by Activison. You can be Tony and many more skaters or make your very own character. And everything in safe environment of your flat!
Tony Hawk besides skating played in some movies like " 3000 miles with bam and hawk" or " The new guy".

For those who want to know some more about Tony, please visit this sites.
For now please watch these videos of best tricks on skateboard ever, made by Tony Hawk.

The third person I want to tell you about is a real spiderman. Who is this person, you might ask? He is a French citizen Robert Alain Philippe born in 7 august 1962. He became famous for the Urban Climbing. Proof of his passion are months which he spend in jail for following his dreams.

Before 2003 he never asked local authorities for permission for climbing and he usually ended up
being locked in jail. But it wasn't a thing that could discourage him and few months after he was
released, he was climbing on another SKYSCRAPER. Since 2003 he started to get paid for his climbing. As an example in May 2003, he was paid approximately $18,000 to climb the 95-metre Lloyd's of London to promote the premiere of the movie Spider-Man on the British television channel Sky Movies.

How did he start this strange hobby? He was climbing since youth at clifs, but one day he forgot keys to his home. His parents were out. In addition he was living in eighth-floor apartment . What do you think he did? :D

Robert has scaled 85 giant structures around the globe including many of the world's tallest
structures, most of which he has scaled using only his bare hands and climbing shoes.

As curious detail I'll tell you that in June 1999 he climbed Mariott Hotel (140 metres height) in
Warsaw, maybe you remember that episode? :D

Here are some additional links about Robert:
And some vid's from urban climbing:
For the end, please listen to this song, enjoy the video and think about all who fulfill they dreams and realize their passions.

Next time I'd like to show you some most extreme and most funny or weird Xtreme sports!

  1. - What do you do for a living?
    - I do extreme sports and I'm a star.

As the Chinese say 'do what you love and you'll never have to work again'! :) I'm not a specialist in that sport disciplines, but you can simple say they have their dream jobs :)

It's the perfect situation, when you can turn your hobby that you love in a way to earn a living. Additionaly become a celebrity and you have a ready recipe for a wonderful life.

It can be somethimes difficult to find a time for your hobbies... but once you have the possibility to spend all your time just on that hobby or sport, you can simply become perfect at it!

  3. Big respect to the spider-man guy, it is incredible what he is doing. As I have heared he climbs all those buildings without any security! So one mistake and he can end badly ;P
I have played Tony Hawk Pro Skater game when I was younger and it was pretty cool. What is funny I learn that guy like him really exists much later ;D What he does with his skateboard is awesome, I would be scared to jump so high and do such tricks.

I also played Tony Hawk game series.
As for skaters I like most Rondey Mullen. He is a street skater. Just watch some movies of his, they are amazing. Some of his thicks are unbelievable.

That Robert Alain Philippe guy is also amazing. That looks impossible what he is doing.

  5. Despite risk extreme sports are still popular. When I was child I saw many crazy people jumping on bikes on benches.

The beauty of these sports is that it can be done by everyone who has a board or bike and a little courage ... roads, stairs, benches this places are good for beginners. “Street" is a trainer for future stars.

Undeniable proof of the demand for such sports is the fact of sold out  all performances for RED BULL X-FIGHTERS. Two years later, the opening of the new stadium, the organizers offer similar specs, and if you believe their predictions are again run out of places long before the event.

  6. I admire people who has passion and love what they do. I do not have any passion and I am very lazy people. I suffer because of it cos I would like to have any hobbies and could made something extreme, maybe extreme sports like people described in this presentation. But this time I am bored my own life and I can't find the sense of my really beautiful and interesting life. I envy people who can take for their life as much as possible and love it...

  7. Seeing this guys live is something great. I saw this guys jumping on the motorcycles, and i was in the neighbourhood of marriot hotel whe "spider man" was clibing on it, thees were breath taking moments. It seems that this people have fully free minds in moments of doing this incredible things. One who try to do simple olie on the skateboard can think only about how tough is concrete under it, but they seems to forget about its existence. They need adrenaline rush so they do all the time more dangerous and more effective things.

  8. I admire people with passion, especially when it involves breaking some human barriers.
I know Tony Hawk because of my brother who was obsessed with skateboarding.
I didn't know Travis Pastrana and Robert Alain Philippe. They are amazing and I'm sure I will learn more about them ;)

  9. I admire these people for their courage and persistence, that they have passion and ambitions. The life of these people are amazing and full of adrenaline. Practically every sport practised professionally is dangerous, so what to say about extreme sport. The most admire Spiderman, many times I read about his accomplishments.
I wish I could not see it with my own eyes when he climbed up on the Marriott Hotel in Warsaw.

  10. There are few extreme sports that I would like to try, like skydiving for
instance, but some of them are just very hard. Not only dangerous but also
demand a lot of skill. I am often impressed by people that except for great
courage have also enough determination to do things that may seem to be
impossible for everybody else. I think it really takes a lot of strength to
overcome one's fears. When I sow the movie:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd8AJdcnw4A
I just got speechless. For some people extreme sports might seem stupid and
too risky, but I think that people who do them can truly say that they lived
    their live.
